3 January 2011

I have been extremely remiss in talking about myself and my problems I have completely failed to wish all my loyal readers and there it happy, healthy and prosperous New Year, which of course, I now do

The last of the five Australian Ashes Test Matches started last night. I promise to keep the reports short! As I mentioned before this last one is significant in that at the moment we have any ‘retained’ the Ashes and a Win or Draw in last Test will mean a win which is a far more positive result. Anyway Australia batted and lost four wickets for 134. Not too disastrous but we’ll see what happens tomorrow (or rather overnight tonight).

My darling daughter Chloe gave me some sheepskin lined bootees For Christmas. Unfortunately, handsome though there were, I was unable to get into them as  I do not have the flexibility to in my ankles. The dear girl went onto the Internet and has found something very suitable, in fact, designed for people like me with lack of flexibility in their ankles and whose feet are likely to be swollen. If they live up to their description they will be brilliant so I will report later on receipt and then if they’re any good will give you the web page address.

    Hello, Mark
Ah, sometime beauty comes from unexpected places.

I bet you don’t know this one! It’s written and performed by perhaps by the most underrated and under appreciated “rock” musician we have had for many years, here in the states. Warren Zevon wrote this immediately after being diagnosed with mesothelioma. (He died in 2003.)
I don’t know if you are a guitarist or a pianist, but I am both, so I have included the chord progressions, in addition to the lyrics.
Give it a minute before you judge it. This one’s for Alice! Yes, sir.

    ARTIST: Warren Zevon
TITLE: Keep Me In Your Heart
    Lyrics and Chords

    [ G = ; Gmaj7 = ; Cadd9 = ; G/B = ; A7sus4 = ]

Shadows are falling and I’m running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for a while
If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for a while

    / G Gmaj7 Cadd9 G / Cadd9 – G – / :

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for a while
There’s a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for a while

    {Refrain}
Sha la, la-la-la, la-la-li, li, lo
Keep me in your heart for a while
Sha la, la-la-la, la-la-li, li, lo
Keep me in your heart for a while

Sometimes when you’re doing simple things around the house
Maybe you’ll think of me and smile
You know I’m tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for a while

Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

    / Cadd9 – G/B – / A7sus4 – G – / 1st / A7sus4 – D7 – /

Engine driver’s headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for a while
These wheels keep turning but they’re running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for a while

    {Refrain}
Keep me in your heart for a while

    / Cadd9 – G – /

You are so right Barbara. Thank you for introducing me to this beautiful song, I shall create awareness when she has a few moments to listen to it. The only problem is that sounds to me like the memory of someone who has passed away and I’m not quite there yet!

Anyway it was very sweet of you to become to send all of this to me. Incidentally, I adore music mainly classical, but also enjoy these sort of soulful songs.

    All the best

    Hi, Mark
I’m sorry if the song seems sad or morbid. There are truly many kinds of “death.”
This comes to mind: I moved from my hometown (Portland, Oregon) two years ago, after having lived there for 51 years. My “wheels were turning” –yes– but I was “running out of steam.” When a headhunter contacted me, about a job in California, I made the move. Alone. Emphasis: Alone. Since then, many friends have fallen by the wayside, but I like to think I am remembered by some, and they will “keep in their hearts, for a while.”

Don’t share this song, though–if it will be upsetting in your household.

ps My musical background is classical, also. But I like to break out, once in a while.
    Please don’t tell my professors !!! 😉

I certainly did not wish to imply that this song was sad all morbid. In fact I thought it was rather beautiful. Any comment you make on the blog, once approved by me appears there so we had no choice but to share it with others. Indeed I actually sent your song with the chord progressions to some dear friends of mine to play the guitar and sing songs in Sweden.

    Best wishes

    Mark
