Adopt a Dog
If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never say its not quite as good as his mother’s
…then adopt a dog.
If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you want …
…then adopt a dog.
If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn’t care about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies
…then adopt a dog.
If you want someone who is content to get on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores
..then adopt a dog !
If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn’t care if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually
..then adopt a dog..
BUT, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness .,

I have a springer spaniel for whom I can do no wrong and a tortoishelle cat for whom I can do no right! I read about you for the first time today in the Daily Telegraph. What an inspiration for absolutely everyone who reads your diary. I am lucky, single at 78, to be healthy and active. But none of us knows what our end will be. Tragically, you do, and you are being absolutely wonderful about it as is ‘your lovely’ and your family. Have a great trip to Thailand. I have just returned from 10 days in Cambodia which was fascinating as we were looking for critically endangered birds with members of BirdLife International’s Rare Bird Club and saw an enormous amount of the country in the process. The Giant Ibis is down to 50 as it has traditionally been hunted for food, as was the extinct Dodo in Mauritius. Our visit may or may not persuade the government to be proud of ‘saving’ the bird in their country. They have so many other issues to deal with it won’t be easy, but BirdLife is a splendid organisation which believes in working with local people, which is essential. Thank you so much, Jane, for telling me about your very busy life- you are obviously a very young 78-year-old.( I am 48 going on 76) It is great to hear someone who loves animals as much as Alice and I do. I lost my dear black lab, Woody, a few years ago and still miss him sorely. I will try to find time to look at your Birdlife Website.
